Grace is for Living – Part 1

Been thinking about the scriptural teaching that grace is for living. We know that grace is for saving, and grace is for dying. But 2 Peter 3:18 admonishes us to “…grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” Growing is learning and experiencing — that is; living out the immeasurable riches of His grace. How does that work out? I’m working toward writing more fully about those truths that I’m studying.

This morning I was jolted when I learned a good friend, Jerry Vegter, was taken swiftly to heaven by a massive heart attack. Jerry was quite a bit younger than me, and he was a very active guy helping people all of the time with his multiple skills. We certainly are reminded that all of us have an appointment with the end of our sojourn here on earth.

As I was going through my prayer list today I always start by reviewing the verse I’ve adopted for my remaining days. For the first time the word “until” really stood out to me. Ps. 71:18 says, “Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, do not forsake me, Until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to everyone who is to come.” My prayer is to have the grace of time to recover physically and strengthen so that I can write more about declaring His strength and grace.

  1. We join you in praying that prayer, Dr. Carlson. Your posts on “Grace Journey” have already been a blessing to us and many others. May the Lord strengthen you and give you discernment as to what to write in the coming days.
